The Alchemist

The Alchemist was written by Paulo Coelho, this book is about a young boy name Santiago who has a couple of dreams about finding hidden treasure by the pyramids in Egypt. In the beginning of the story when we meet Santiago he was a shepherd, who had many sheep and had a dream to travel. Santiago was a busy shepherd, he had a big crush on a merchants daughter but instead of visiting her he meets a a lady who can see the future and tells him that he will find the treasure by the pyramids, but if he does he has to give her one tenths of his sheep. Than later on he meets a king who says the same thing about finding the treasure and gives Santiago two stones and says if you find the treasure i want one tenths of your gold. Santiago agrees to both of the deals and than starts to travel. When Santiago arrives in Spain he winds up getting robbed by two boys and takes all his money that he had, that's when Santiago travels up a hill and starts working for a crystal merchant. Santiago winds up working for the crystal merchant for over a year and gets a lot of money and becomes close with the merchant. He thought of many ideas for the shop, he than tries to get the merchant to travel with him to the pyramids and even the merchants personal dream but he doesn't agree to go. Santiago starts to travel to the pyramids and that's when he meets the Englishmen. Santiago than meets a girl name Fatima and falls in love with her. He than has to leave the girl and promises he'll be back. Santiago keeps traveling and meets the alchemist and winds up going through the camps that are at war, the army makes Santiago turn into the wind. Santiago was able to pull it off, the army took his money and let him and the alchemist go on. The alchemist than gives Santiago gold and than leaves so now Santiago is on his own and is almost to the pyramids. When Santiago gets closer to the pyramids he gets beat up again and they take his gold, Santiago tells them hes traveling because of a dream and they let him go. Santiago then gets to the pyramids and find the treasure he's been looking for. I didn't mind reading this book, i just wish it was more entertaining and didn't lag as much as it did. I think i wouldn't tell someone to read this unless they want to read a story that is boring. I would have never read this book unless i had to for school.
